How to evaluate a trading KOL’s public record

A source-based framework for reading a creator’s trading commentary, disclosures, audience fit, and historical examples.

A trading KOL’s public record is a source trail, not a follower count. The useful question is whether a reader can reconstruct what was said, when it was said, what asset and network were involved, and what happened afterward. A leaderboard can help find an account, but it cannot fill those gaps.

Start with the source

Write down the original post, article, video, or profile URL and its publication time. Preserve the exact wording and any quoted contract address. “I like this project” is different from “I bought this token,” and both are different from a confirmed transaction. A screenshot without a timestamp or source link is a lead to verify, not a record.

FOMO’s leaderboard explanation describes 24-hour, 7-day, 30-day, and all-time views, with measures such as P&L, ROI, and volume. Those windows are useful labels. They do not establish a complete trading history, prove that a position is still open, or show whether a result includes fees, funding, deposits, or withdrawals. Treat a displayed metric as a dated platform observation with its own definition.

Use five checks

Check Evidence to look for Question it answers
Identity First-party profile, signed handle, linked account Which account made the statement?
Thesis Dated post with asset, network, entry idea, and invalidation What was actually proposed?
Execution Transaction, position page, or clearly labelled open/closed record Did an action occur, and in what state?
Incentives Sponsorship, referral link, token allocation, or fee disclosure Who benefits if readers act?
Follow-up Later update, close, correction, or missing record What changed after the first post?

The checks should remain separate. A creator can explain a useful concept without publishing a complete ledger. A profitable-looking screenshot can omit size or the losing positions around it. A referral disclosure can improve context without making a trade suitable for a particular reader.

FOMO’s own newsletter gives a practical reason to distinguish states. In “Another $1,000,000 Fumble”, the publisher explains that a reader can open a trader’s closed position and use its share control to view a fumble card. That documents a product surface and a post-trade view; it does not independently audit the result. When reading any such card, record whether it is open or closed, the observation date, and what the interface leaves out.

A worked reading card

Suppose a post says, “I am watching TOKEN on CHAIN.” The card should contain the post URL and date, full token address, network, stated thesis, and the next event that would disprove it. If a later profile shows a position, record whether it is open or closed and whether the page reports a position size, entry basis, fees, and exit. If those fields are absent, mark them unknown. Do not turn the later chart into proof that the original post predicted the move.

If the idea concerns a Sui asset, discovery still comes before execution. Resolve the canonical coin type, read a current route and minimum received in SUIBROKERS Swap, and review the wallet prompt yourself. A KOL post, leaderboard, or assistant cannot sign a transaction or create a verified ledger record.

What a good conclusion looks like

The output of this review is a bounded statement: “This source published this idea on this date; this later page shows this position state; these fields remain unknown.” It is not “this person always wins,” “the audience is reliable,” or “the next trade will work.” If the profile or primary post is unavailable, keep the handle as an attribution lead and leave the missing evidence visible.
