Sui ecosystem basics: wallets, DEXs, stablecoins, NFTs, and infrastructure

A map of the main Sui ecosystem components and how they fit together around a reader’s first onchain task.

Editorial pixel-art cover: Two people in a warm 1990s records room arrange one physical network map as separate linked stations: a key cabinet for wallet control, a brass route table, a glass asset drawer with one stablecoin tile and one NFT card, and a paper index ledger.

The Sui ecosystem is a set of layers around one network. A wallet controls keys and presents signing prompts. A DEX or aggregator finds a route. A stablecoin or NFT is an asset with a network-specific identity. Indexers and infrastructure make state easier to query. The layers meet in a transaction, but they do not answer the same question.

Start with the job

The official Sui getting-started directory groups projects and guides around wallets, DeFi, staking, NFTs, games, data, AI, and infrastructure. Treat the directory as orientation. Project availability, regional access, custody terms, and supported assets can change, so read the named project's own current documentation before using it.

Translate a vague goal into one task:

  • Hold or send an asset: choose a wallet and verify the network, full type, recipient, and gas path.
  • Trade: identify whether the venue uses an order book, pool, or aggregator, then review route, output, slippage, and settlement.
  • Use an NFT or object: record its object ID, owner, version, and the application that can interpret it.
  • Read history: use an indexer or explorer as a view of network state, then confirm the digest and effects on Sui.
  • Build or integrate: check the package, transaction inputs, wallet capability, and data transport that the app expects.

Why asset identity matters

Sui's object model gives objects stable IDs, versions, and ownership. A fungible coin still has a full type and coin objects or an address balance behind the wallet display. An NFT has an object identity rather than only a name or image. A ticker is a convenient label; it is not enough to decide whether an application accepts the asset.

The same caution applies to a route. An aggregator can return a possible path, but the quote does not prove that the wallet holds the right input, that the output is guaranteed, or that the transaction has settled. The wallet signs a concrete request. The network digest proves what Sui accepted. A product or indexer may record the result later.

One asset through the layers

Imagine a user holding SUI and trying to receive USDC. The wallet first exposes the address and balance. A route service looks for a supported pair and amount. The application builds a transaction with coin or balance inputs, package calls, and perhaps shared pool objects. The wallet presents the network, recipient or route, outputs, gas, and slippage for approval. Sui executes the transaction, and an explorer or indexer reads the digest and effects.

Each handoff can fail for a different reason: wrong network, unsupported coin type, unavailable route, rejected signature, insufficient gas, or delayed indexing. A support request is clearer when it includes the task, wallet address, exact asset type, transaction digest if any, and the state shown by the relevant layer.

A small product example

Current SUIBROKERS Swap is one application-layer example: it uses a connected Sui wallet, requests a Bluefin 7K route, and waits for an explicit signature. That flow illustrates the ecosystem boundary, but it does not represent every Sui wallet, DEX, stablecoin, NFT, or infrastructure provider. Read the target application's own terms and transaction prompt for its exact route.

The useful question is therefore not “which ecosystem project is best?” It is “which layer performs this job, which asset and authority does it require, and what record proves completion?”
